Innovations leading to improved energy efficiency, for example, demonstrate our strength as a leading and sustainable drive technology company.

Lots of product variants can be made from just a few individual parts.

Thanks to the high proportion of standardized components, we can use many parts across a range of different product series.

Many compatible components give rise to a large variety of products – in other words, customized solutions that are geared to the market.

Safeguarding resources helps us meet environmental and climate targets and increases the value of our company.

Making products and product maintenance eco-friendlier

Four examples from SEW EURODRIVE that demonstrate our commitment to offering increasingly resource-friendly solutions, thanks to new and improved products.

Life Cycle Services: Our products are designed to be as maintenance-friendly and repair-friendly as possible. Our gear units and gearmotors can be disassembled non-destructively and then reassembled again once faulty or worn parts have been replaced (retrofit service). All spare parts are available worldwide for decades.

Drives in the ECO2 design: Many years ago, we started offering very small drives that have an uncoated surface and are largely made from aluminum. These drives have proved very successful in simple environments. We are now greatly expanding our range of ECO2 designs.

Environmentally friendly lubricants: GearFluid by SEW EURODRIVE is the environmentally friendly alternative to lubricants made from fossil raw materials. It is manufactured from sustainable biomass in a complex synthesis process that cuts CO2 emissions by 84 percent.

Product of the Year 2023: IE5 drive solutions with a DR2C.. synchronous motor are designed for purely inverter operation – a variant that keeps losses particularly low and is therefore especially energy-efficient. The innovative product received two independent awards in 2023.

Drive solutions that are designed to be energy-efficient.
Regenerative power supply units, energy storage devices, standby mode, and energy-saving functions all play a part, while energy-efficient brake management helps us achieve further savings.

In-house ecodesign guidelines.
We pull together all our product ecodesign know-how (it's all about the cradle-to-cradle approach) to create our own guidelines, which provide developers with specific recommendations, such as avoiding the use of certain adhesives or casting resin.

Circular economy
We are guided by the principle of a circular economy. A production model that keeps existing materials and products in circulation for as long as possible through repair, overhaul, reprocessing, reuse, and recycling.

We are therefore working on integrating this production model into our value creation processes. Our goal is to extend product life cycles and process the product components even after the original use and thus to produce as energy-efficient and resource-friendly as possible.

Compact design.
Thanks to a compact product concept, we are using less aluminum, and we have also cut down on the use of potting compound, opting instead for separate assemblies, which simplifies repair work.
